Corrupted Adolescence

The kids of this new neighborhood only cared about his street credibility: where he was from and what drugs he took. Teachers only cared about his prior education and how his grades were above average. This boy will refuse to make friends and keep to himself, focusing strictly on education. Until mom's too busy working to notice his 3.0 grade point average or achievements. The boy then realizes he has no achievements, or friends. His grades don't bring that release of dopamine anymore. His teenage mind is his worst enemy.

Advocating for Merced’s Youth in D.C.

Some of the issues we advocated for included health access for undocumented people, immigration reform and youth investment. That last one is critical in Merced, where city leaders seem to have forgotten the youth and have completely underfunded opportunities and resources for them to prosper.

Letter To My Brother

I know I don't write very often, sometimes it's hard for me to come up with the words to say. I don't like asking how you've been or what you've been doing because those questions run up against the harsh reality that you've been in and out of prison most of our lives. I hope you know with certainty that I miss you all the time and you are so loved by our family.
