Skateboarding has been a part of my life since I can remember. I started skating in 2016 at the age of 11. I lived by MacNamera Skate Park during this era so I spent my days passing by this park heading to the stores. While taking my strolls each time I passed by, I always stopped and stood in awe wondering how the people got good at skating. After days of mesmerizing the park, I decided to save a couple of bucks and buy myself a skateboard to join the rest.
Over the years of my skating journey, I have realized it was not only a hobby, but a passion. It changed my life in various aspects. For example, I made tons of great lifelong friends that I’ll never forget. They have always provided me with amazing memories I’ll cherish forever. It also gave me a healthy outlet to relieve my life’s tensions and stressors. If I ever felt down, I skated. If I ever felt anxious, I skated.
That leads me to my next focus, how skating changed my mentality for the better. It taught me to step away from life’s wheel and let the universe do its thing. In other words, not everything is not in my control and that is okay. Just like I put my trust in myself every time I step on the board and try a new trick. I learned to put trust in myself when it comes to handling whatever life throws at me. A sense of freeness and peace is the best way to describe it.
