School Discipline

February 1, 2013 /

In order for Le Grand to implement this program at their school, all school staff had to be trained in the restorative justice system. This also required them to pay for the curriculum and the cost of the training. Griggs sees these expenses as minimal when compared to what they can serve, because the program can be applied for years to come. Le Grand recommends that a group of students should also be trained. These students can get involved at the student level and help teachers with issues that arise.

Students get into fights, so schools discipline them. Is the disciplining method being administered benefiting the student as well as the school and community, or just the school? If students get involved in physical confrontations, they should be disciplined. However, it would be better to pre- vent confrontations from happening. The ones most apt to prevent violence in school are the ones who participate in it, students. There should be a way to help the student, instead of letting the school rid its problem with an expulsion.
