1. This is the Merced Ballerz basketball tournament, which was held at Tenaya Middle School. It was a 3 on 3 format for the games. This photo was from the beginning of the tournament where teams started.

2. Teams were playing hard to win. They were fighting well to score and make it all the way to the final game. It was great and amazing to see the teams play with energy even though it was very hot.

3. Teams are working hard to continue moving forward in the tournament, even if accidents happen.

4. Shooting to make baskets is hard when you are throwing from far away. It was amazing to be able to catch that moment when the young man shot and the hard work paid off and he made the basket.

5. The is the same game from picture 4. You can tell that both teams want to do their best to win. The young man in the black shirt is jumping high to score points, while the others try to stop him.

6. The games were getting fun because everyone was trying their best. All the boys in this game were keeping their eye on the ball. To be able to score well, you need to be able to get the ball and focus on making the basket.

7. This action shot is of one team’s player, Siaosi Langi, 16, dunking the basketball. He jumped high at the right time. I asked a question to him: “Do you think there should be more opportunities like this in Merced?” And Langi’s answer was, “Yes there should be. It’s good for the community and it’s good to get to know people. This is the first time I’m joining here. Ball is life.”

Cameron answered with, “Yes. I think it’s good tournament and there should be more.”

10. The Merced Ballerz Basketball tournament was awesome for all the participating players that came to the tournament. They all looked like they were having fun even though it was very hot. There should be more tournaments like these, just as some of the players thought, because it is a great opportunity for young people to get together and receive community support.
