The Youth Power Summit is a gathering of youth set on advocating for bills that will benefit society. At this event, I learned that my voice is valuable despite systems that wish to muffle it.

This is a picture of our final day in Sacramento for the Youth Power Summit. All the youth and adults allies gathered in front of the Capitol building in preparation for the rally and meetings with legislators.

During our rally, youth held up signs with the names of men and women harmed by police officers. These youth were the backdrop of other youth and officials speaking on matters related to police brutality and problems in their communities that need change.

On our first night at the Youth Power Summit at UC Davis, we were treated to a show in the yard. The show included an open mic where youth rapped, did spoken word poetry, singing, and even one person did stand-up comedy. This is a pair of youth who were up to rap during the open mic.

On one of the days of the Youth Power Summit, we gathered into the orchestra room to watch a few different performances along with hearing public education supervisor candidates Tony Thurmond and Marshall Tuck answer questions asked by the youth. During this picture a chant broke out, saying “There’s no power like youth power cause youth power don’t stop!”

On the second to last day of our trip, we were lucky to hear the personal testimonies of multiple youth with adverse childhood experiences and how they turned it around through positive programs they joined and rehabilitation support.
